What it is

The brand-name tirzepatide, in a once-weekly pen.

Zepbound® is Eli Lilly's brand-name tirzepatide. It activates both the GLP-1 and GIP receptors, the two hormone pathways the body uses to regulate appetite and energy balance, and it is taken as a once-weekly injection under the skin.

It is FDA-approved for chronic weight management in adults with obesity, or with overweight and at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It is also approved for moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea in adults with obesity. It comes as a single-dose pen, a multi-dose KwikPen, and single-dose vials.

Indication and dosing information is taken from the manufacturer's prescribing information. Zepbound® is a prescription medicine and is not right for everyone. A licensed provider decides whether it is appropriate for you.
